Jonathan Woods | Under the Tree Foundation | Tabor 2013The Under the Tree Foundation is a non-profit that I established in 2007 in order to provide for teens at the holidays. The idea for the foundation came to me while I was shopping for my school’s toy drive. It occurred to me that toy drives are typically geared to younger children. It made me wonder what happens to kids my age (12 at the time) and older whose parents have
a hard time providing for their children at the holidays. During that shopping trip, I decided I would start the Under the Tree Foundation and provide for underprivileged teens.
The following year, with help from my family and friends, the Under the Tree Foundation was established as a non-profit. In 2007, we partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester, and through generous donations and support, we were able to not only fill the wish lists of twenty- five teens, but also provide additional gifts and host a holiday outing, as well.
This January marks the completion of our fourth season, and we have now helped over 1000 kids with gifts and outings and have raised over $25,000 in support of these efforts. One of my favorite parts of the foundation is meeting and interacting with the kids we help every year
at our holiday outings. The Under the Tree Foundation has been a life changing experience and has taught me how easy it can be to make a difference in the lives of others.
